Tennessee Staycations

Chattanooga - This is a beautiful busy city with something for everyone. You can tour museums, picnic in the park, “climb” Lookout Mountain, enjoy a meal and trolley ride at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo and learn about sea life at the 130,000 square foot Tennessee Aquarium. You can enjoy sumptuous meals at the many fine dining and family restaurants, rest and relax at national hotel chains, lavish B&B’s, and rental cabins/condo. Plan to spend 3-4 days so you can enjoy the great Chattanooga attractions.

Gatlinburg -Do you love to ski? Plan a trip to Gatlinburg where its 3 ski resorts offer miles of downhill snow fun, alpine slides, indoor skating and more. During the summer months, you can visit the Christus Gardens, the many craft shops, and the Space Needle Observation Deck. Lodging ranges from family friendly inns to full service hotels and convention centers.

Jackson - For a quiet weekend get-away, this is just the place! At the Casey Jones Village, you can see 100+ year old stores and America’s most famous railroad. Outdoor relaxation can be found at Chickasaw State Rustic Park, Cypress Grove Nature Park and Pinson Mounds State Archeological Area.

Johnson City - If you love to get back to nature, plan a few days here. You can go on guided white water rafting trips, through the Nolichucky Canyon, the Mississippi River, the Watauga and the Russell Forks; go mountain biking, explore the Appalachian Caverns, go fishing at Watauga Dam and Lake or set up camp at the Rocky Top Campground. Johnson City is the site of Tennessee’s oldest town and original capital of Jonesborough. You can also learn more about the area’s history at the Carroll Reece Museum and the Jonesborough History Museum.

Monteagle - More natural fun can be found in this summer resort area. There is an abundance of State Natural Areas, a rock formation known as the Great Stone Door, the 25 foot sandstone Sewanne Natural Bridge and the beautiful University of the South campus.

Sevierville - If you are a NASCAR fan, then plan a weekend trip here where you can spend hours at the NASCAR Speed Park which allows you to get behind the wheel of a mock stock car and take a spin as you drive the full motion NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway simulator. You can also have a blast at the arcade, indoor climbing walls, miniature golf course and bumper boats. Other area attractions are the Forbidden Caverns, water activities at Douglas Dam and Lake and seeing the deer, zebra, pygmy goats and llamas at Smoky Mountain Deer Farm.
